Stinging Nettles Now on Sale

Although not normally associated with being a gardeners best friend, stinging nettles have now become a must have accessory for any self respecting urban gardener.

The Gardening Express website is now selling stinging nettles online for the princely sum of £7.99, and with the site reporting that initial supplies have already sold out.

The product description tells gardeners;

“Taking star position in our range… many people are now planting a patch of these in their gardens specifically for wildlife, being essential food for caterpillars of Red Admiral, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies.”

Stinging nettles are being touted as a great health food, with the plant being rich in Vitamins A and C, iron, potassium, manganese and calcium.

The site is additionally selling dandelions and buttercups, suggesting weeds are having something of a renaissance. Chris Bonnet of GardeningExpress said;

“Some call them weeds but we don’t want to hurt their feelings. After all, a weed is only a plant in the wrong place.”
