Making local food happen on a wider scale

It’s good to know that greenhouse growing is valued – a US company specialising in providing greenhouse farms near grocery retailers has received funding for a new site in Pennsylvania.

BrightFarms has built greenhouse farms across the United States and applied to The Reinvestment Fund (TRF) to build a 53,000 square foot greenhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  It was awarded $1.26 million for the new greenhouse which will grow 500,000 of produce per year and employ up to 10 people.  What’s more, the locals will enjoy flavourful, healthy vegetables which will benefit the whole community.

Bright Farms aims to grow local produce and so reduce time spent on food miles and therefore costs in production.  The supermarkets it supplies benefit from fresh produce that has been grown with care for the environment, enabling them to provide customers with the local produce that is best for the planet.
