A Valentines treat to make you fall in love with conservatories

Those looking to spoil their partner on Valentines Day in February may wish to investigate a night at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew (RBG Kew).

Celebrating its 250th anniversary, the Gardens is putting on a Tropical Extravaganza display of orchids throughout the month of February.

Guided tours of areas not normally open to the public will be combined with champagne receptions on a few selected evenings.

But perhaps the most thrilling event will be the four-course meal on offer at RBG Kews famous Grade-1 listed building the Orangery, followed by a romantically-lit guided tour of the worlds oldest and largest orchid collection housed in the Princess of Wales Conservatory.

The conservatory will be covered in a stunning array of orchids, and staff will offer potting demonstrations and be able to answer any questions that guests may have.

The trip to the conservatory is bound to lift any gloom brought on by the cold and wet winter, and the tropical climate inside the giant glass house is likely to make a few wish they had a cosy conservatory at home.
