Young families growing their own vegetables more and more

Speaking at the recent Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Horticultural Society adviser Laurel Emms said more interest in schools added to mums and dads looking to set up a pleasant outside space have contributed to this trend.

“We see lots of young families who are very interested in growing, particularly their own food,” she explained. “They’re just interested in having a nice space to be outside. It’s not just inside the house – the garden is another room of your home where you can enjoy it.”

Alongside that, Ms Emms stated, people are now much more interested in where their food comes from and whether pesticides have been used to grow it.

This interest is leading many people – especially families – to cut out the middle man and produce their own foodstuffs
