Victorian park gets conservatory revamp

A Victorian park in Huddersfield is to undergo a £5.4 million regeneration scheme that will see its listed conservatory refurbished and transformed into an events space.

Greenhead Park has suffered from vandalism and neglect since council funding dried up a few years ago, according to the Yorkshire Post.

But the refurbishment of the conservatory and demolition of other buildings should help to make the park a "recreational jewel" once again.

The conservatory is to have its glass and timber replaced and park manager Robert Whittaker explained that the refurbishment was about making the park all it could be.

"Greenhead Park is already a very popular park, attracting tens of thousands of visitors throughout the year, and playing host to many of Kirklees large outdoor events, which this year included the Carnival, A World Together and Concerts in the Park," he told the Yorkshire Post.

"This project will improve almost every part of the park, including a new lake, boundary railings and gates, together with repairs to all the footpaths and steps."

Conservatories have been proven to be popular places to entertain and homeowners looking at improving their house may look for a modern design to brighten up the home.
