Urban design spurs the imagination

San Franciscos most interesting construction is neither Alcatraz nor the Golden Gate Bridge, it has been asserted.

Online resource the San Francisco Chronicle explains that the "most intriguing construction project" in the city is the four-storey Urban Centre that is due to house a think tank called SPUR.

Featuring two-storey high glassed-in exhibition space, the edifice features an east elevation that contains a 12-foot-wide bar of translucent glass that begins next to the main entrance to the structure and rises a total of 53 feet into its roof.

Head of the project and member of SPUR Dianne Filippi, tells the publication: "We felt the need for a ground-floor presence that is accessible and welcoming."

In related design news, the Daily Record was recently told that a glass structure – such as a bespoke conservatory – could provide the answer to consumers looking to increase the amount of heat, light and space in their room.
