Upcoming horticultural events in California

Californian garden and greenhouse fans have been given a list of forthcoming horticultural events which may be of interest.

The Sacramento Bee noted that master rosarian Muriel Humenick is hosting a summer rose workshop on Saturday (July 10th) at Bushnell Gardens in Granite Bay.

The class will look at how to grow healthy, beautiful roses and is available free of charge, with students also given a complimentary shears sharpening.

Meanwhile, those who want to help their local community could head to the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery for the Deadheading at Dusk event, which takes place on Monday from 18:30 to 20:30 local time.

The evening will see members of the cemeterys Heritage Rose Group offer instruction on how to care for vintage bushes and old garden roses.

The Shepard Garden and Arts Centre is also set to host its annual meeting on Saturday and is looking for new volunteers with fresh ideas.

Taking place from 19:00 in McKinley Park, the meeting will see members begin planning for the next 12 months.

In other news, the Rutland Herald has published some tips on how older people can get back into gardening.
