Unseasonal weather is delaying gardening jobs

Editor of Gardeners’ World Magazine Adam Pasco, writing in his blog, suggested that jobs such as collecting autumn leaves will have to be postponed until Christmas because many of the flowers on things such as silver birches and oak trees are still intact.

Mr Pasco said although the jobs have been delayed by the weather, the warmer soil has also meant that people can extend their planting season as temperatures are currently ideal for doing so.

“I can’t send my mower for servicing yet, it’s useful for picking-up leaves and shredding them for composting and the grass is still growing,” he added.

Earlier this year, Gardeners’ World’s Pippa Greenwood advised people to plant deciduous trees and shrubs in the autumn as the moisture content and temperature of the soil promotes good root development
