UK homeowners taking long-term view

There could be an increase in the number of conservatories or roof lights purchased over the coming months, if statistics from AA Personal Loans are anything to go by.

A recent survey by the finance provider found 24 per cent of homeowners intend to extend their property by the end of the credit crunch.

It suggested Brits are now taking a longer-term view of property investment and have become more focused on tailoring their house to their own needs than increasing value.

Almost six in ten (57 per cent) respondents said they were improving their property in order to have a nicer living environment, while 32 per cent intended to add value.

Head of AA Personal Loans Mark Huggins explained the company has yet to see a fall in interest

"Although many would expect demand for home improvement loans to be less during the recession, our figures show that their popularity is actually unchanged," he said.

With the National Landlords Association announcing today that its female members predict an end to the credit crunch within nine months, providers of conservatories and extensions could be in for a busy year.
