TV inspiring DIY enthusiasts

Television is proving itself to be a popular source of inspiration for the nations home improvement enthusiasts, according to a new study.

Research by financial services provider Alliance & Leicester indicates that nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of people are motivated to carry out DIY tasks – which could include the installation of a conservatory – after watching it carried out on screen.

Richard Al Dabbagh, head of personal loans at Alliance & Leicester, comments: "TV programmes appear to make home improvements – and adding value to your home – an easy thing to do; and this has focused homeowners minds on improving their current home."

Nicholas Leeming, from propertyfinder.co.uk, adds that any conversion that creates additional living space will add value to a house.

In related news, online resource Find A Property noted that the organisers of the Scottish Homebuilding and Renovating Show identified a new conservatory as a prudent home improvement investment.
