TLC for spring pots

With April only a few days away, gardeners should spring into action and give their spring flower pots some tender, loving care.

It suggests that dead heads should be removed from winter-flowering pansies, primulas and spring bulbs such as daffodils to encourage growth.

Compost in pots should also be checked to ensure that it has not dried out.

Established shrubs should have a thick layer of well-rotted manure or compost spread around them to act as a mulch.

It can also be placed alongside the bases of hedges to help contain moisture in the soil and combat annual weeds.
