The top three gardens to visit this winter
Tony Russell of The Telegraph has revealed his top three gardens to visit this winter. His choices include the Painshill Landscape Garden in Surrey, the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh and the Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens in Cornwall.
The Painshill Landscape Garden is a 158 acre 18th century Georgian garden which overlooks Surry’s countryside. As well as a spectacular display of bulbs, trees and shrubs, the garden also offers a number of other features, including a Victorian Gothic tower and a crystal grotto.
The Royal Botanic Garden offers 70 acres of plants and is home to Palm House, the tallest greenhouse in Britain, which houses a selection of tropical and subtropical plants.
Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens is located on the edge of St Austell, Cornwall. The 30-acre park is home to a collection of magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias. Features of the gardens include an arboretum, a Japanese garden and a pinetum with over 80 different conifers.
