The Sky Garden
London’s latest skyscraper, 20 Fenchurch Street, otherwise known as the Walkie-Talkie, will have a 3000 square metre glazed space sitting atop, known as the Sky Garden.
Engineers are putting the final touches to the 55 metre beam which will support the glazed space which boasts a 15 metre high roof. Once work is complete, the Sky Garden will be propagated to create a public space with foliage, rare plants, trees and flowers.
The Sky Garden will deliver panoramic views of London to up to 400 people at a time and will include an open balcony. The best part is that it is free to the general public. The Shard charges £25 for a similar privilege, although with demand expected to be high, visitors will need to a visit a website to register.
It is hoped that the building, which will have its grand opening in the Sky Garden, will be open by Christmas 2014.
