The Early Spring Bloom

It’s the time of year where we can all start looking forward to spring. The days will soon noticeably be getting longer, and the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is more than a mere speck. It means we can all start getting excited about the shoots of new life, specifically the early flowering spring bulbs.

January is heralded by Snowdrops, Cyclamen Coum, Eranthis and maybe even a few daffodils. February will be coloured by Anemone Blanda, Crocus, Scilla and Chionodoxa, whose blooms are shaped like pale-blue stars. As March and April arrive we are treated to an explosion of colour – Narcissus, Erythronium, Hyacinth, Tulips, Convollaria and Trillium.

It’s a hard life being a spring flowering bulb, but they signify an end to the dreariness, and colour our gardens and parks with the promise of better things to come.  These flowers are nature’s way of bringing hope, cherish them.
