Tennessee garden attraction honoured

Tennessee garden and greenhouse enthusiasts looking for inspiration could head to the award-winning historic garden at Nashville Zoo.

Tended to by the Davidson County Master Gardeners, the attraction was the recent recipient of the 2009 Search for Excellence award from the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension.

According to the panel of judges, the zoo is home to the best demonstration garden in the state and also achieved a high level of learning among both master gardeners and volunteers from the general public.

The Davidson County organisation has tended the land for the past 13 years and gave more than 3,350 hours to the project during 2009, Zoo and Aquarium Visitor revealed.

Those heading to the site can also take advantage of the spring gardening classes, which take place every Saturday during March and April.

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette has suggested that garden and greenhouse enthusiasts may find Garden Bouquets and Beyond by Suzy Bales a useful book for their collection.
