Sutton Council raises garden grabbing concerns

The local authority has vowed to step up its fight to protect green spaces from the inner-city sprawl, which has seen many property owners erecting buildings or extensions that encroach on their homes’ gardens.

According to the council, the increased urbanisation could undermine the borough’s suburban nature.

Speaking to This Is Local London, councillor Jayne McCoy said: “Sutton has an excellent reputation for preventing ‘garden grabbing’ and that is why we are calling for the framework to be modified so we can protect Sutton’s local character.”

She added that residents love the amount of greenery in Sutton and for that reason the council has vowed to help protect the region’s gardens.
