Staff at Garden Wisley hold litter drive

Staff at the Royal Horticultural Societys (RHS) Garden Wisley have conducted a clean-up of the local village and area surrounding its grounds.

Organiser Tony Gregory, who is garden superintendent and leads the sites Green Team, explained employees at the site – many of whom stay locally – had become disillusioned with the volume of rubbish building up.

He said they felt compelled to step in and help the environment by downing their horticultural tools for a day.

The event took place on April 23rd and has already made a difference.

"Many visitors drive through the village and we are really pleased with the results that this clean-up has achieved," Mr Gregory commented.

According to the RHS, the project gathered a range of weird and wonderful items discarded around Wisley Village.

Included in the haul was a brightly coloured bathtub and toilet seat.

Meanwhile, gardeners wishing to pick up tips on mountain horticulture may wish to head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, which is opening its Alpine Zone to the public from today (May 7th).
