Spring gardening hints

Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts should have no shortage of things to keep them busy this spring.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has released a number of tips to help growers keep on top of things.

It explained that April is a perfect month for gardening thanks to the rising temperatures, although greenhouse owners should expect a number of showers.

Savvy growers will have started seeds under glass and should be ready to plant them outdoors now, although it is important to be wary of any late frosts.

Fruit blossom should be protected from any surprise cold snaps that may occur thanks to the UKs unpredictable weather.

Furthermore, it is important to stay on top of the weeding to give new plants a chance to establish themselves.

Now is a good time to sow hardy annuals, herbs and new lawns, or fill in any bare patches of grass.

Meanwhile, it may also be beneficial to begin feeding citrus plants and increase the frequency of watering in the greenhouse.

In other news, the RHS recently revealed that a garden attraction in Wales is to be placed under financial review after asking for more funding.
