Saturday will be worst for DIY disasters

This coming Saturday is likely to see a number of insurance claims and hospital visits due to DIY disasters, according to AXA.

With 17 million Brits set to indulge themselves with home improvement this Easter weekend, the companys research shows almost a quarter (23 per cent) will take out their toolbox on the morning of April 11th.

One in ten intend on fitting a new kitchen or bathroom, while more than half (51 per cent) will crack open a paint tin to add colour to their home.

However, this can lead to accidents, with one in five having previously experienced a DIY disaster.

"As well as all the other preparation thats essential for a good DIY job, its worth checking out whether youve got suitable insurance in place," explained AXA head of household Nick Kidd.

M&S Money recently warned there is likely to be a spike in insurance claims over the Easter break as people squeeze as much work in as possible.

The company suggested homeowners seek professional help for jobs they are not sure about – such as installing a roof light.
