RHS reveals prohibitions for hosepipe ban
The Royal Horticultural Society has revealed the prohibitions for the hosepipe ban, which will return on the 5th April and will affect 20 million customers of water companies across eastern and southern-eastern England.
Amongst the prohibitions listed by the RHS were watering a garden using a hosepipe and using a hosepipe to fill or maintain a domestic pond, ornamental fountain or to clean outdoor patios, windows or other outdoor surfaces.
The society said that it was reviewing its drought plans for RHS shows, gardens and plant centres “to avoid unnecessary water use, and updating watering and water-saving advice for gardeners”.
The society also urged gardeners to check restrictions.
“The exemptions applied under the Temporary Use Bans vary between water companies, so gardeners should check the restrictions. If an individual is found to flout these rules, they can face fines of up to £1,000. Public consultations on these Bans run until 30 March 2012,” the society said.
