RHS garden and greenhouse site up for gongs

A garden and greenhouse attraction in the north of England could be set to scoop two separate gongs.

Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden Harlow Carr has been shortlisted for the Sustainable Tourism Award.

The attraction recently opened its new Bramall Learning Centre, which is said to be one of the greenest buildings in the UK.

Head of Harlow Carr Liz Thwaite explained that the site will hopefully inspire others to help protect the environment.

She added that being nominated for both the Sustainable Tourism Award and the Large Visitor Attraction category of the Welcome To Yorkshire Tourism Awards is a "massive honour" for the garden and greenhouse attraction, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year.

"All the staff work incredibly hard to keep this garden special and we are constantly looking at new ways to improve the visitor experience," Ms Thwaite said.

Last month, the RHS revealed details of a new London park which is set to act as a national demonstration of how horticulture can be used to deal with climate change.
