RHS Cardiff Show to run until 2017

The Royal Horticultural Society has signed an agreement with Cardiff Council to enable the RHS Cardiff show to run until 2017. The show, which began in 2006, has seen an increase in the amount of visitors, with nearly 24,000 people attending this year compared to the usual amount of 20,000.

Jon Maidment, Council operational parks manager, said that pre-sales of 10,500 for the first day of the show last week were a record amount and added that the event, which was held at Bute Park, had brought £500,000 economic benefit to Cardiff, making it “viable from a community perspective”.

The show, which is budgeted for 22,000 visitors, would have to expand if the number reached 25,000.

Bob Sweet, RHS shows development director, said that the show had been “very successful”.

“Visitor numbers have been up,” he said.

“We’re hoping to reach 30,000.”
