Norfolk college to get new glazed look

Yarmouth College is set to begin a 4-year rebuilding plan that will see the college transformed into a modern and spacious learning environment.

The £40 million plan was approved yesterday meaning that by 2012, the college will boast a new three-storey glass building, devoted to boat-building, as well as a glass atrium front on the main building, improved access, new class rooms and a new play area.

Work on the first phase – the glazed boat-building area – will begin in September

Yarmouth college principle Robin Parkinson said the project would breathe life into the college.

"At present the college is a tired old building that is not flexible and is in desperate need of more room," he told EDP 24.

"From 2012 Yarmouth College will certainly be one of the best educational facilities in Norfolk and I am sure future students can not wait to come here. These are exciting times for the college."

The project will increase the colleges capacity to over 8,000 when it is completed in 2012.
