New glass training centre opened

The UKs glass industry has received a boost after a new national training centre was opened in Birmingham recently.

As the first of its kind in the country, the Safestyle Centre will work in tandem with Matthew Boulton College and Sutton Coldfield College to educate trainees in glazing skills.

The £250,000 centre will also be used by its owners – glass company Safestyle – to educate its entire staff to NVQ Level 2, according to the Telegraph and Argus.

Managing Director Steve Birmingham explained that the facility will help boost the abilities of glazing industry workers.

"This centre of excellence is all about giving our installers an opportunity to hone their skills and develop new ones," he said.

With glass becoming a major feature in modern development, the courses will be in high demand and the industry will surely benefit from the increased level of talent.

Meanwhile, the Scotsman has reported that a number of stained glass windows have been installed in Edinburghs city chambers.
