Christmas is coming! So, what better way to celebrate than to make an idyllic winter wonderland in your garden?

Poinsettias are cheery plants that are widely grown indoors over Christmas for their brightly coloured bracts. They are often disposed of once they start to fade, but with a little care, you can keep them all year and the bracts will colour up again the following year.

Hippeastrum bulbs are popular gifts at Christmas. They are often commonly, but incorrectly, known as amaryllis. By following a few easy tips, these showy, beautiful flowers will bloom year after year for you.

Christmas Cactus

Schlumbergera truncata and buckleyi are the two species of epiphytic cacti that are both commonly known as Christmas cactus. So called because they flower from late November to late January, they give a wonderful Christmas display or are an ideal Christmas gift.

Rosemary

A sun-loving perennial whose scent evokes the Mediterranean, rosemary has needle-like leaves that can be picked all year round. Fresh or dried leaves can be used to flavour meat, soups and many other dishes, while sprigs steeped in olive oil give it a distinctive flavour. Tea made by infusing chopped leaves in boiling water helps digestion.

Holly

Most hollies have some leaves infested with leaf miner. The damage can be unsightly but has little impact on the plant’s growth or vigour.
