London’s Rooftop Gardens

A new environmental initiative – InMidTown – has been launched in London, with several organisations leading the way. The project aims to turn rooftops into vegetable patches and flower gardens in a bid to boost the capital’s bee population, provide a free source of food as well as making the area around Bloomsbury and Holborn the most sustainable area of London.

Organisations that are taking part include the TUC, top law firm Mischon De Reya and the Radisson Blue Edwardian Hotel.

Mischon De Reya has turned its roof into a wildflower space where employees can relax and meet clients. It is also designed to attract bees. The TUC have undertaken a similar project.

The Radisson Blue Edwardian now has organic vegetables growing on its roof which are being used in the staff canteen. Additionally software firm Cartesian and law firm Olswang have also put in place a vegetable garden.
