Library to build garden-view conservatory

A North Tyneside library is soon to offer its users the option of relaxing in a cosy conservatory with a good book, thanks to a huge grant.

The Big Lottery Community Libraries Fund has given the local council £1.3 million to demolish and rebuild the existing Howdon Library.

New additions to the facility will include a conservatory and a family learning centre, as well as a modernised library building.

Mayor John Harrison told the Northumberland Gazzette that the architects involved have consulted library users so the work will be done with their wishes in mind.

"This is set to be a great community facility. Whats important is that our team worked closely with local people to make sure we develop what they want," he said.

"The new building will give more space for activities, offering wider access and making use of the sites garden for the first time."

Library users will soon be able to enjoy views of the library garden from the conservatory as they leaf through books.

Similarly, patients being treated for cancer at a Wirral hospital will be able to enjoy the same experience after it was reported that Cherie Blair had recently opened a new cancer unit there.
