Lack of sunlight a concern

With many deciding to stay at home this summer to avoid the weak pound abroad and last months record lack of sunlight, it has inevitably led to a lack of exposure to sunlight, according to experts.

Despite too much UV light increasing the risk of skin cancer, sun exposure is one of the best ways to get the body to produce vitamin D, which is vital for regulating calcium in the body.

Human Nutrition Researchs Inez Schoenmaker told the Times that a lot of UK citizens could be suffering from vitamin D deficiency.

"It is a concern that were not getting enough vitamin D," the expert said.

"That puts people more at risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, certain cancers and many other diseases."

One way of ensuring that you get enough sunlight could be to install a conservatory, where you can enjoy the available light while being protected from the elements.
