Kitchen garden provides community spirit in London

The garden sits on the site of a disused tennis court which was run by the NHS until 2009 when it was leased to the council for use by the community as a kitchen garden.

In its first flowering season, the garden won second prize in the community garden category of London in Bloom.

Chairman of the community kitchen garden Anna Cassar told the Kensington and Chelsea Informer that the garden had turned into much more than just a place to grow produce.

“We run community events every so often, which helps, but a lot of people come here for the community feel. There are real friendships growing between people who might not otherwise have met,” she added.
