Kensington and Chelsea clean up at gardening awards

Kensington and Chelsea gardeners have been living up to expectations of their gardening abilities by scooping a number of awards at the London Gardens Society annual prize-giving ceremony.

The event took place on October 16th at the Guildhall and saw a number of garden and greenhouse enthusiasts honoured for their efforts in horticulture.

Categories included awards for best hotel, pub or restaurant, which went to Gerry OBrien of the Churchill Arms, while Harvey Groffman scooped the All-London Championship for his small back garden.

Brighter Kensington and Chelsea Scheme chairman councillor Tony Hold seemed delighted that the area had done so well.

"What a great result for the residents of the borough," he said.

"This was a London-wide competition so winning awards was no walk over.

"In order to meet the high standards of the judges, much time and effort must have been spent, so the people who won proved their worth as seasoned experts.

"This is also another example of how our residents help to keep the borough smart and attractive."

Awards ceremonies such as this help recognise garden and greenhouse lovers for being good at what they love – an appreciation of talent and effort.
