Islington breaks awards record

The London Borough of Islington is celebrating a record in the number of Green Flag awards for parks and open spaces.

Gardeners in London will be looking at the parks with interest to see if they can pick up any ideas or inspiration for their own gardens.

A number of areas throughout the borough were given accolades and Islington Council executive member for leisure and equalities said it is a measure of the work put in to the spaces.

"These awards show how far we have come," she said.

"Our parks are now welcoming, safe, well-maintained and involve the local community in how theyre run.

"This is so important in a densely-populated borough like Islington where many residents dont have access to private gardens.

"High-quality parks really improve our quality of life and Im proud that so many of our green spaces have been recognised as excellent."

Those lucky enough to have a garden in London may wish to include a greenhouse in which they can grow exotic plants and fruit and veg.
