International Plant Materials Show

This winter the city of Essen, Germany played host to the International Plant Materials Show, showcasing the very latest technologies and ideas for plant material and packing for greenhouse owners. The show hosted 60,000 visitors and is the largest show of its kind in the world.

1500 exhibitions showcased ornamental plants, cut flowers, production equipment and supplies. Additionally, Dutch greenhouses debuted new technologies in lighting and crop production.

Danish mini plants proved to be very popular at the show. Grown in 2.5in pots, these plants are proving to be very popular on the continent, being used as a centrepiece to table decorations.

New colour trends for containers and hanging baskets were also on show. Beyond the traditional terracotta, green and black pots that are the norm in gardens, pinks and purples seem to be the colour du jour.

Keep an eye out for these trends taking affect at your local garden centre.
