Horticultural Industry Recovers

According to the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), sales in the horticultural and gardening sector rose 6% in 2013 compared to 2012 figures.

The HTA report reveals that the gardening industry is on a much firmer footing at the beginning of 2014 compared to one year earlier, thanks to Britain’s economic comeback over the last twelve months.

The report has looked at the Garden Retail Monitor, which provided an overview of garden centre sales, with particular highlights being an increase in plant sales and a huge 14% jump in landscaping sales. Experts believe this is linked to a more active housing market, with people wanting to improve new property, and a growing consumer confidence.

Even the adverse weather experienced during much of 2013 did little to dampen a bumper year, leading to musings over what could be achieved if Britain gets a good summer.
