Home is where the meals are, research shows

Brits are eating at home rather than in restaurants, research has found.

The number of Brits investing in new dining rooms or conservatories may be set to increase after research found a growing number of people are favouring eating at home.

Search engine Ask Jeeves survey revealed almost half of the respondents were eating at home more now than ever before.

Amode buyer Helen Harwood suggested people are investing in their eating spaces as they know eating out is not as cost-effective.

She explained where meals are consumed is often considered the "heart" of the home.

"It is where loved ones gather to catch up on their days events and spend quality time together. And as people are eating out less, they are entertaining at home more and hosting dinner parties," Ms Harwood said.

Those with picturesque gardens may consider dining in their conservatory to allow guests a pleasant view while they eat.

Meanwhile, First Rung Now said the governments Home Buy schemes – aimed at first-time buyers – are flawed and are not helping as many people as they should.
