Growing inspiration

People garden for many different reasons; for some its the enjoyment of it all; others like to compete, while more still may do it for the health and financial benefits.

But one woman has managed to turn her garden into a real money spinner, with the proceeds going to local charities.

Elaine Land, of Cheadle Hulme, has raised over £15,000 by exhibiting her beautiful garden and she is set to open her gates once more this Sunday.

"I love gardening," she explained.

"It’s something I’ve been doing all my life, although the weather has not let me do as much this year as I’d have liked."

Ms Land, of 73 Hilltop Avenue, will be opening her gates between two and six this coming Sunday afternoon.

Garden exhibiting can be a good way of raising money for charity, while having the added benefit of helping to build a community and providing the gardener with a pleasurable pastime.
