Great glass library

Princeton University in the US is to unveil its new library on Thursday September 11th.

The Lewis Library has taken four years to complete and will house the universitys science collections.

Designed by world renowned architect Frank Gehry, the building is made of angular steel, glass and brick and will provide 87,000 sq ft of space.

Gehry has added colour to both the exterior and interior so that the view reflects the colours of the inside of the building when looking out of the window.

He hopes the bold lines in the design of the building will inspire its users, according to

"Scientists who are focused on complex issues may find that the abstract landscape of the building will stimulate their imagination and perhaps inspire them to think outside the box," he said.

Gehry, who designed the Spanish Guggenheim Museum, recently designed a temporary glass canopy for Hyde Parks Serpentine Gallery.
