Glazed extension to help manage pain

Recent research has pointed to the benefits of natural sunlight in the relief of chronic pain in women.

The study, featured in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, concluded that vitamin D, which is made by the skin when exposed to sunlight, can help manage pain in females.

The research found that, of almost 7,000 women in their mid-40s, almost 15 per cent of those with low levels of vitamin D suffered chronic pain compared to only 8.2 per cent of those with higher levels.

What wasnt clear from the results is whether low levels of the vitamin cause the pain, or whether it is high levels that take it away.

One thing is clear though and that is that sunlight can be beneficial to women.

Although not everyone can spend hours outside, a glazed extension to the home can help open it up to natural sunlight, meaning that inhabitants can benefit from vitamin D production in their own home.
