Glazed atrium receives praise

Tribute has been paid to a 30-foot glass atrium aboard the Ocean Princess cruise ship by industry publication Glass Magazine

Located in the main atrium of the ship, the domes design incorporates "a whimsical pattern of ocean blue waves" in an art nouveau theme that also incorporates a palette of pale greens, blues and ambers.

Matt Slovick, editor and chief of Glass Magazine, explains that more than 100 photographs were submitted for the publications inaugural cover contest for ornamental glazing.

He adds that the ceiling dome was a "head-turner" and picked up an honourable mention as well a place in Glass Magazines online photo gallery.

President and chief designer of Jancik Arts International Angelique Jackson comments: "The massive size of the dome and light colours with neon backlighting gives a sense of a conservatory, inviting natural light into the space."

Meanwhile, Philip S Wenz recently wrote in the San Francisco Gate that sky lights have the potential to enhance the appearance and habitability of a property by illuminating dimly-lit spaces.
