Glass design fit for Princes

Edinburgh is a city known for its beautiful architecture, with the famous castle overlooking the city and its pretty period buildings throughout the city centre and beyond.

But one hotel has decided to give the citys second most famous street a modern twist by unveiling plans to encase a Georgian building in glass, reports the Scotsman.

The architectural trend comes from Berlin and has already got city leaders excited about the £40 million 121-123 Princes Street development.

The Deramore Property Group hope to mimic the work done on Edinburghs Festival Theatre and city economic leader Tom Buchanan expressed his delight that the group was showing interest in investing in the city.

"It is also encouraging that Deramore is committed to investing in high quality design – this will vastly improve upon the current physical amenity of this part of Princes Street and also help set a benchmark for other major city centre development proposals," he told the newspaper.

Glass can be used as a perfect tool to create a contrast between old and new and can be the perfect partner for period buildings.
