Get the greenhouse set for winter

With winter approaching, gardeners are likely to spend more time in their greenhouses than their gardens.

With this in mind, greenhouse maintenance should be made a priority and work done now will pay off in winter.

A clean and tidy greenhouse will help prevent pests and diseases spreading, according to the BBCs gardening site.

"Put canes around plants that need support; such as cordon tomatoes and melons, and tie in emerging shoots," it advises.

"Look out for pests and diseases and treat appropriately.

"Common pests in warm, humid conditions include aphids, red spider mite and mealy bug. Diseases include mildew and botrytis."

Greenhouses help offer a new dimension to gardening, allowing different plants to be grown that wouldnt otherwise be possible in the UK.
