Gardeners World looks ahead to RHS event

The build up to the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Autumn Harvest Show will continue on Friday (October 1st) with a special feature on a TV show.

BBC 2’s Gardeners’ World will look ahead to the October 5th and 6th event with presenter Joe Swift focusing on vegetable growing.

The expert will be seen attempting to grow food that is perfectly formed and up to the standards expected of RHS show exhibitors.

Much of the show will focus on fruit and vegetables that are grown in late summer and autumn so the programme’s angle could be perfect for getting garden and greenhouse enthusiasts in the mood.

Viewers will see how getting the best out of your vegetable plot can become an obsession, especially when the element of competition is introduced.

Mr Swift is in the fortunate position of being able to call on the advice of Welsh expert Charlie Maisey, who has won numerous vegetable growing contests.

The celebrated grower will provide numerous tips on how to get the best from beans, onions and carrots, as well as the best ways to deal with local foxes, cats and other pests.

The show takes place in London’s RHS Lindley and Lawrence Halls .
