Garden Harlow Carr to host Spring Plant Fair

Gardeners looking to pick up some tips can do so at the upcoming Royal Horticultural Society Garden Harlow Carr Spring Plant Fair.

The event takes place on Sunday May 3rd from 10:00 until 16:00 BST and will feature around 30 specialist nurseries from around the UK.

A wide range of plants from primroses to grasses will be on show and nursery staff will be on hand to distribute advice.

Visitors will have the chance to attend one of two container planting demos, which take place at 11:00 and 14:00 BST, with places issued on a first come, first served basis.

Garden manager Dean Peckett explained the preservation of garden plants is an important part of conservation.

"In the future we may well need to refer back to older plant varieties should modern ones fall prey to climate change or introduced pests and diseases," he predicted.

Mr Peckett added gardens like Harlow Carr were "essential banks" of vintage plants.

On May 9th and 10th, the venue will host Everything You Need to Know About Rhododendrons – two days dedicated to the cultivation of the species.
