Garden centre offers apprenticeship opportunity for jobseekers

A garden centre in Headstone Lane, Harrow, is offering jobseekers with an interest in horticulture the opportunity to apply for a paid year-long apprenticeship programme. The Harrow Garden Centre will begin the scheme, which will enable those over the age of 16 to gain a horticulture diploma, between July and September.

Those that take on the programme will be paid the national minimum apprenticeship wage of £2.60, with an additional £500 bonus when they complete it. Candidates may then have the chance to apply for a higher level apprenticeship.

Harrow Garden Centre Manager, Mike Townend, said: “We are delighted to be launching an apprenticeship programme at the garden centre. The scheme is the first of its kind for the horticultural industry and is a great opportunity for people to gain employment, particularly during the current economic climate.”

Those interested in applying for the apprenticeship can apprenticeships@thegardencentregroup.co.uk for an application form before Tuesday 31st July 2012.
