Garden and greenhouse site houses crazy duck

A mother duck has chosen a hanging basket at a popular garden and greenhouse attraction as the place to have her chicks.

Hoisin has laid ten eggs in the raised plant bed in Surreys Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden Wisley Plant Centre.

According to manager Nigel Eaton, it is the "most unusual nesting site for a duck" that he has ever seen.

The bird left staff in awe as she swooped into her new home in front of 120 guests at a recent book signing.

However, the 8ft drop to the floor is causing concern for the wellbeing of the chicks and workers are considering setting up tables with dense foliage underneath to cushion the fall.

Furthermore, the basket is quite a distance to the canal and lakes at the site and an employee will be required to open a gate for the little family when Hoisin eventually decides to take her chicks to water.

In other news, the RHS recently revealed that the government is planning to stop the practice of garden grabbing, where developers build new homes on green sites.
