Garden and greenhouse fans can grow heritage tobacco

Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts considering growing their own tobacco may be interested in a new book.

Home Grown Natural Tobacco: The Heirloom Tobacco Garden by Timothy A James is aimed at educating horticulture fans in how to cultivate rare native American and old world classic varieties.

The fully-illustrated book was written with garden and greenhouse growers in mind, with easy directions and more than 100 colour photographs to help horticulture fans on their way.

It includes instructions on how to harvest, dry and cure the plants naturally for smoking and other uses.

According to the books publisher, the "garden is a means of reviving our respect and sustaining our connection with Mother Earth, Father Sky, and humane cultures around the planet".

Meanwhile, the Sun News recently urged horticulture fans not to neglect their garden or greenhouse chores in autumn.

It said people should keep mowing their lawns as long as they are growing, while the grass, trees and shrubs should be watered if the soil dries out.
