Flora and Fauna of Cheshire Gardens

The rolling countryside of Cheshire boasts a plethora of fascinating gardens and stately homes, as well as other tourist attractions.

It also happens to be the site of Gabriel Ash’s greenhouse showroom, which is between Chester and Wrexham.  You’re welcome to call in and you’ll get to see our joiners in their workshop where you can touch, see and even smell our beautiful range of red cedar wood greenhouses, cold frames and accessories.

And you could combine your trip with a visit to one of Cheshire’s 25 beautiful Gardens of Distinction.  See the full choice at www.cheshiresgardens.com.

Some are about to shut for the winter, but you could start planning a trip in Spring.

On the Cheshire Gardens’ website, award-winning garden designer and TV presenter, Chris Beardshaw, explains the reasons why he loves Cheshire’s open gardens:

“There is much to explore in each garden – each one is different every day and that isn't just in terms of flora and fauna! From events, arts and culture, to food and drink, plus activities for the family, Cheshire's gardens offer a full visitor experience whatever time of year you choose to visit.”

If you’re not in time to catch the gardens this year, you could still take a tour of a stately home or book one of the many special events on through the winter, especially leading up to Christmas.

Some of the bigger halls and gardens, such as Capesthorne Hall at Macclesfield, Arley Hall and Gardens in Northwich and Tatton Park in Knutsford, have a programme of events.  Do check their websites before visiting though for details of opening times and to book ahead.

This winter Tatton Park is offering a Lantern Parade, Dickensian Christmas at the farm, Christmas concerts, a Christmas Spectacular in the Grand Pavilion, Christmas Hat making sessions, a Gift Fair with shopping and a Christmas Party Spectacular.  See http://events.tattonpark.org.uk .

Events on at Arley Hall include a Willow Weaving Course, a Murder Mystery night, a Theatre evening, a Creative Craft Fair, Piano Fare, Shopping Spectacular, an Antiques and Fine Arts Fare, a Christmas Flora Extravaganza and a Christmas Party Night.    See http://www.arleyhallandgardens.com/events.

Capesthorne Hall has arranged an event ‘Christmas at Capesthorne with crafts’ at the end of November.  See http://www.capesthorne.com/events.

Chester is the main city in the area and offers plenty by way of entertainment and attractions.  A walk along the City Walls gives a great overview of the city and you can visit the Cathedral or watch the Horse Racing at the racecourse.  If you’re going with the family, attractions such as Chester Zoo and the Blue Planet Aquarium will keep all ages amused.

But don’t forget to leave time to visit the Gabriel Ash showroom!
