Edible garden competition for Bristol youngsters

Bristol youngsters with a passion for garden and greenhouse work could put their skills to use and see their creation become a summer display at a local tourist attraction.

Bristol Zoo is looking for kids to design an edible garden in a competition that could see their work enjoyed by visitors.

The competition is being run in conjunction with Bristol in Bloom and the bodys chairman, Mike Crook told the BBC that he hoped it would help educate children about growing their own food.

"This is a wonderful project which raises childrens awareness of where their food comes from," he said.

"The fruits of their labours will then be appreciated by all those who visit the zoo over the summer."

Growing your own food has become ever more popular after around two years of financial turmoil and fluctuating food prices.

Bristol Zoo is home to over 400 species of animals, with visitors able to catch a glimpse of slippery penguins, hairy gorillas and scary lions among others.
