Droitwich Spa scheme receives welcome grant

A gardening scheme in Droitwich Spa has been handed a grant which could allow it to add to the services it provides.

Launched by Age Concern Droitwich and District, the Adopt-A-Garden initiative has received more than £5,000 from the Worcestershire Partnership Health Improvement Fund, the Droitwich Spa Advertiser reports.

The scheme aims to help youngsters get involved in gardening by pairing them up with older people.

Commenting on the award, Age Concern services manager Trudy Pavitt said the team was excited about the project and the way it can bring different generations together.

Dr Richard Harling, Worcestershire’s joint director of public health, added: "This is a great example of an innovative project which will help improve public health in a number of ways and across age groups."

Meanwhile, Volunteers at the Stepping Stones Project at Thurrock Mind are seeking funding to keep their programme afloat, according to the Thurrock Gazette.
