DIY accidents will peak on Saturday morning

Home improvement accidents will peak this Saturday morning with paint spillages the most likely mishap.

That is the prediction from insurance firm AXA, which is expecting a barrage of accidental damage claims as Brits indulge in DIY over the Easter weekend.

It says evidence from previous years has shown Saturday (April 11th) to be the most likely day for accidents, with almost a quarter (23 per cent) of the estimated 17 million Easter DIYers planning to carry out tasks on that day.

While one in ten plan to fit a new kitchen or bathroom, more than half (51 per cent) will undertake a spot of painting.

According to the research, almost one in five has experienced a DIY accident in the past and AXA head of household Nick Kidd urged caution and restraint.

"As well as all the other preparation thats essential for a good DIY job, its worth checking out whether youve got suitable insurance in place," he said.

The advice comes on the back of a similar warning from Halifax Home Insurance, which suggested homeowners invest in professional help and guidance for major jobs like building a conservatory.
