Director-general of garden and greenhouse society to step down

Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts may be interested to hear that Inga Grimsey, director-general of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), has decided to step down from her role.

Ms Grimsey took the position in August 2006 and, although it is not clear when she will cease to perform her duties, the RHS has suggested it may be before the turn of the year.

Commenting on the planned departure, the bodys president Giles Goode-Adams explained the organisation has made "substantial progress" under her stewardship.

"The society has made tremendous progress in the delivery of its charitable mission, with the phenomenal growth of our schools programme, including two new education centres due to open next year," he stated.

Mr Goode-Adams added his colleague had helped improve the management of the RHS and thanked her for the work carried out.

The outgoing director-general said it was a "privilege" to fill the role and spoke of her pride at what she has achieved during her tenure.

Although originally known as the Horticultural Society of London, the RHS was founded in 1804.
